|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 5:00 pm on Sunday and Thursday, repeating until March 31, 2019

Skills Development Program

The Skills Development program is the perfect place to start your kids off right. This graduated program takes the student from the basics all the way to advanced levels and is offered twice a week throughout the season.

Practices are scheduled for Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays followed by hot chocolate, snack, and a social time in the lodge.

  • Sundays – 1:00 to 2:30
  • Thursday – 5:00 to 6:30

Please arrive about 15 minutes before practice begins to allow time to wax skis, get dressed, etc.
Practices happen in groups. Skiers are grouped according to skill level and age. However, there may be times when groups are combined. Parents are encouraged to participate and improve their own skiing at the same time!

Please Note:

  • If the weather or snow conditions are not ideal or the temperature is colder than -15 C, we will continue with the practice as scheduled but it will be modified to accommodate the conditions. We will either do a modified outdoor program and/or provide an indoor program. If it is extremely cold, such as -25 C or the roads to the trails are not drivable, practice will need to be cancelled. Please use your personal judgement.
  • All parents are responsible for their children while at Nordics practice. If you need to leave the 99 Mile Ski Trail area, please communicate to your child’s coach which adult has agreed to be the designated responsible adult, who is NOT a coach.
    • If out for a ski, please be prompt returning to the lodge at the end of practice.
  • Ski trail passes must be worn at all times
  • Lodge Etiquette: For safety reasons, running and standing on furniture is not permitted in the lodge. Please be safe. There is a stairwell and a hot wood stove. As the lodge is used by other lodge users, as a courtesy we ask that the noise level is kept to inside volumes.

Parent Helpers:

Throughout the season, we need additional assistance from parents and families. We would appreciate help with the following items.

  • Snack:
    • Signing up to bring a shared snack for after skiing, a minimum of once per family per season
  • Lodge Parent (must be a 100 Mile Nordic’s member):
    • Signing up for being a lodge parent for the duration of ski practice, twice per family per season. Responsibilities include the following.
      • Preparing hot chocolate for the skiers after practice
      • Be available in the lodge as part of the safety plan
      • Set up snack and clean up after snack, including wiping tables, washing dishes using the FoodSafe 4 step method, and sweeping the floor.
